The R-rated off-beat superhero film “Deadpool” continued to slay the competition at theaters over the weekend, collecting more than $56 million to retain its title of the top film in North America, according to final figures released today.

“Deadpool,” featuring Ryan Reynolds in the title role, earned $56.5 million between Friday and Sunday, pushing its two-week haul to $236.9 million, according to comScore.

The animated sequel “Kung Fu Panda 3” collected $12.5 million to hold on to second place, narrowly besting a pair of debut films. The religious drama “Risen” opened with $11.8 million, followed by the debut of the decidedly less family friendly “The Witch,” which earned $8.8 million.

The comedy “How to Be Single” placed fifth with $8.2 million.

Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies this weekend were “Race” ($7.4 million); “Zoolander 2” ($5.5 million); “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($3.9 million); “The Revenant” ($3.8 million); and “Hail Caesar!” ($2.7 million).
